On March 9 at approximately 8:15 p.m., Forest Rangers responded to a fire that had spread beyond its intended area on private land in the Town of Catharine, Schuyler County. Local firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze before it caused further damage.
Following the incident, Forest Ranger Richer issued a ticket to the individual responsible for burning another person’s property. The case has been referred to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Division of Law Enforcement for further investigation and enforcement action.
Open burning regulations in New York are strictly enforced to prevent wildfires and property damage. Residents are urged to follow all state and local burning laws to avoid fines and potential legal consequences.
