At 11:40 a.m., Ray Brook Dispatch received a call from a concerned hiker who reported that her partner, a 54-year-old from Quebec, was in critical condition while descending the mountain. The rugged terrain and the patient's condition made this rescue mission especially challenging, but the Forest Rangers and their partners were ready to respond.

Forest Rangers Bowler, Lewis, Martin, and Praczkajlo quickly made their way to the scene, where they assessed the patient's medical emergency. Knowing the urgency of the situation, and recognizing the difficulty of the terrain, they called in reinforcements. At 12:17 p.m., New York State Police (NYSP) Aviation arrived to assist with a hoist rescue operation.

In a coordinated effort, NYSP Pilot Engel and Ranger O’Connor lowered Ranger Adams down to the patient. The rescue mission was a delicate operation, but Ranger Adams expertly harnessed the injured hiker and prepared them for the ascent.

By 2:10 p.m., the patient was successfully hoisted into the helicopter, and the rescue team whisked them away to safety. The helicopter rushed the hiker to the Adirondack Medical Center for further treatment. Meanwhile, Rangers assisted the rest of the hiking party back to the trailhead, ensuring everyone was accounted for and safe.

By 3:50 p.m., all resources had cleared the scene, marking the end of a successful and life-saving operation in the rugged Adirondacks.

Their quick response ensured that a hiker in distress was safely removed from one of the most challenging environments in the state. It’s a testament to the bravery and professionalism of those who work tirelessly to keep outdoor adventurers safe, no matter the conditions.
